Producer and cinematographer of the documentary Up the Yangtze, which won the Best Documentary Award at the Vancouver Film Festival and was shortlisted for the Emmy Award for Best Documentary.

Director of the documentary The Last Train Home, which won the Evans Award at the Amsterdam International Documentary Film Festival, the Golden Gate Award for Documentary at the 53rd San Francisco International Film Festival, the Best Documentary Award at the 33rd News & Documentary Emmy Awards, and the Best Long Form Commercial Reporting Award, among many others.

Awarded the Pioneering Spirit Award by MIPDOC and Director of the Year by the British Cosmos Media Awards; he has also served on the jury of several film and television events, including the Emmy Awards and the Evans Awards.

In 2013, he was selected as one of the "World's 20 Most Talented Film Directors Under 40" by the New York Times Film Section, becoming the only Chinese director in the competition.

In the same year, he directed the documentary I Am Here, which was nominated for the People's Choice Award and the People's Choice Documentary Award at the 39th Toronto International Film Festival, the 3rd Phoenix Video Documentary Awards for Best Documentary in Cinema, and the 20th China Documentary Awards Ceremony for the Top 10 Feature Documentaries, among other awards.
